Ways to bind your Book

Book binding is a way to keep your book or a treasure intact. There are many books which are old but are useful and important. These books can be given to you by your ancestors, by your seniors or you may have bought second hand or a used book as the new might be expensive. As these books have exchanged innumerable hands and the pages might be old, it is very likely that the pages might be torn or might have come out from the book. Such books require book binding. There are various ways in which you can bind your book. Depending on the condition or importance of the book, you can select the way you want to keep your book or papers intact.

Saddle Stitching

In this type, normal staples are used to bind the book. Such type of book binding is useful for binding about 30-40 pages. This is one of the cost effective ways to keep your papers intact.

 

 

Comb binding
This is another simpler way of binding the books in a cost effective manner. However, this might be little expensive than Saddle Stitching. In this binding, the books open flat. However, it is not advisable to bind your books in this manner, if you intend to exchange books with many people as if you want to keep for long term as the plastic or the comb might break down.

 

Coil Binding
Spiral coil binding makes your book attractive. However, again it is suitable for a book which has about 100 pages. This type of binding is one of the sturdiest types of binding which is used. However, it costs little more than the plastic comb. Another type of coil binding can be a twin loop binding. It is similar to coil binding, the difference being that two individual wires are used in the loop. The second picture represents loop binding.

 

Velo Binding
This type of binding is used for a long term usage of the book. This is generally a type of permanent binding method. If you bind your book in this type, it becomes very difficult to copy the pages of the same. It does not lay flat when opened, whereas it is easy to stack on the shelf.

 

 

Perfect Binding
This type of binding is generally seen for paperback books. It is easy for stacking and storage. It is a type of permanent binding.

 

 

 

Hardcover or Case bound binding

This is also one of the types of permanent binding. It looks a class apart when presented in front of all the people. It is stable. It is useful for books which have more than 200 pages. Generally, you will find manuscripts or other religious books like Ramayana, Mahabharata with these hard covers. Also, books of law are found in these covers.
